On Earth Day President Obama released and eight paragraph proclamation about Earth Day, but Christian Americans saw nothing in response for the Holiest day of the year for the faith. It is an unwritten tradition for the President of the United States to make some reference to Easter, however this year there is silence from the White House. This has become such an issue that the American Family Association has taken a strong interest by launching an email campaign to go directly to the White House asking why the President seems to have such distain for the American traditions, fundamental principles, and Christian faith in this country.
“The American Family Association believes this was an intentional act of disrespect.” The AFA said in a statement published on their website. “This is consistent with other egregious examples of disregard for our Christian heritage on the president's part, such as omitting "Creator" from the Declaration of Independence, which he has done on at least three occasions. The president has shown far more interest in promoting Islam than his own self-proclaimed Christian faith, the faith of our Founding Fathers.”
The lack of presidential response to Easter was even noticed by the press when several reporters asked press secretary Jay Carney why the snub directed at American Christians. Carney continued to add to insult by laughing the questions off and simply responding “I’m sure glad you are asking these key, important questions, guys.”
In the past President Obama has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha. However the press secretary did point out that the President did attend church on Easter Sunday. The same church that has come under fire because it’s pastor and congregation is known for adding racism into their sermons which just added to the anger American Christians are feeling.
The AFA’s call to action for outraged Americans to contact the White House and let their feelings known also said in their statement “While waxing eloquent about the necessity of preserving our nation's ‘natural heritage,’ he had not a word for the millions of Christians celebrating Easter in America and around the world.”
