On April 30th in Dayton Ohio the organization “A Dollar To Care” is hosting the Armed Forces Family Aid Concert at Jackass Flats. The event is a celebration for those who serve as well as to raise awareness of some of the hardships our soldiers face. The Armed Forces Family Aid Concert starts at 2 p.m. and runs all day offering a full line-up of musical guests, guest speakers, comedians, and activists all gathering together to raise awareness and funds for “A Dollar To Care”.
“A Dollar To Care” is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2010 to assist the families of soldiers who have been or are in the process of being charged with crimes during combat. The group’s founder Cari Johnson became aware that many of these cases were due to violations of the United Nations rules of engagement that at times blur the line between defending themselves against the enemy in war zones and regulations that seem to be designed to protect the enemy. These soldiers lose their benefits and basic housing allotments which often places their spouses and children in a position where the family’s well-being hangs in the balance of the courts.
The Armed Forces Family Aid Concert is their major fundraiser; however it is more than that. With many of the guests being veterans themselves from the Vietnam area to present day the concert allows these veterans to shed light on what the situation is really like.
The event starts off with Congressman Thad McCotter as a guest speaker and later he will hit the stage with his group “The Second Amendments”. Other musical guests consist of Soldier Hard, Dirty Bone, and many more.
The event starts at 2 pm and continues until 11 pm at Jackass Flats in Dayton Ohio. All proceeds go to A Dollar To Care. For more details on the event and the work A Dollar To Care does visit their website at www.adollartocare.org.
