Pro-Life Legislators Ripped By Republicans

Does Purity Only Apply to Social Issues?

Yesterday, House File 5, a bill that would outlaw abortions after 20 weeks, cleared its first hurdle in the House Government Oversight Committee when the three-person subcommittee voted to move the bill forward. The bill is likely to be debated by the entire committee next week before moving to the full house for approval.

The bill is designed to prevent a brazen late-term abortionist, Dr. LeRoy Carhart, from establishing a practice that would provide abortions after 20 weeks. Surprisingly, the bill has divided the pro-life community. Just yesterday, three Republican legislators sent out a press release saying that they oppose the bill.

To Craig Robinson, of 'the Iowa "Republican,"' in response to his hit piece on pro-life legislators:

The scene: A caucus of Iowa "pro-life" legislators.

Representative One: "My esteemed colleagues, as you all know, there is a man named LeRoy Hardhart in Nebraska who is killing people named Craig. He burns off their skin and rips them limb from limb, or sticks scissors in the back of their heads and sucks their brains out, and then sends the body parts to the landfill. He's done it to thousands of men named Craig. The courts say this is fine, as long as Craig is in the bathroom when you kill him, and not six inches through the door into the kitchen. And as long as Craig is between the ages of thirty and sixty. Well, we're afraid Hardhart might come to Iowa. Of course, it's already okay to kill men named Craig in Iowa, because the courts say so, as long as you do it in the bathroom, and not six inches away in the kitchen, and if Craig is between thirty and sixty. What are we going to do?"

Representative Two: "You know, I've thought and prayed about this, and consulted with the "pro-life" lobbyists, who have promised that if we will only let them kill Craig between the ages of thirty and fifty, and as long as they've given him anesthesia so that he can't feel any pain, they will give us a 100% "pro-life" rating and tell our constituents we're "pro-life" heroes, and that we kept LeRoy Hardhart out of Iowa. So, let's do that. We'll get the votes we need and the "pro-life" lobby will get keep the money flowing in to their organizations. It's a win-win."

Representative Three: "But ladies and gentlemen, we all swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution, which explicitly requires that NO person shall be deprived of life without a fair trial, and that the states MUST provide for the equal protection of the laws to ALL persons. It's not optional."

Representative Two: "Well, only the court can say what that means, not us, and they say it's okay to kill Craig as long as he's in the bathroom and not six inches away in the kitchen, and as long as Craig is between the ages of thirty and sixty. I mean, to be honest, since we're in private here in the caucus, we know that the courts are going to rule our law "unconstitutional" anyway, - if it even gets past Senator Gronstal, which it probably won't - even though yes, the Constitution obviously forbids the killing of any innocent person. So, that's not what this is about. It's about keeping the "pro-life" lobby happy and keeping the votes and the money flowing in."

Representative Three: "Your honesty is refreshing, but we didn't take an oath to obey the unconstitutional edicts of judges, or the opinions of Mike Gronstal, or the desires of "pro-life" lobbyists. We made the oath to God, to defend the Constitution and its principles and imperative requirements in every respect. What are you going to tell Him when He asks you why you didn't keep your promise? Why don't we just protect all the Craigs, and everyone else, as we swore to do, and simply impeach any judge who won't follow their own constitutional oath?"

Representative Two: "That's just not practical. You're a kook and an extremist, and I'll be making darned sure you have a well-funded primary opponent next year."

And so it goes, as thousands of innocents continue to be killed by brutal means every day...
