Yet, if you were hoping to hear about America’s response from President Obama Saturday morning you were in for a rude awakening- the words “earthquake”, “Japan”, and “Tsunami” never once appeared in the President’s weekly radio address- though nearly twenty four hours had passed since the devastating quake ripped through the heart of the home of the rising sun.
In a scene reminiscent to his blunder the day of the Fort Hood Massacre, when the President spent nearly three minutes literally giving “shout outs” before casually mentioning a “tragic shooting”, President Obama’s address today centered around pushing for equality in the workplace and patting his own self on the back for making great strides for women’s rights.
Though the White House now contends that the address was taped earlier this week and after having watched the video I have no doubt about that, I can’t help but notice how this gaffe reveals the level disarray the current Obama administration finds itself in.
Love them or hate them, the young Democrats and old Chicago boys that carried Obama into office ran a very well managed and professional campaign, but three years into his first term I can’t help but wonder what happened to the Obama Machine?
By failing to pocket his liberal message for a weekend and record an all new radio broadcast, the President appeared, at best, to be part of a totally mismanaged office and completely out of touch with the mood of the nation- While at worst, totally self-absorbed and callous.
His inauguration was supposed to put an end to the era of “American Arrogance” and yet one day after everyone’s favorite Asian country is leveled to the ground he fails to even mention them, choosing instead to stick with a recorded message drawing attention to his pet projects…
By the President not mentioning Japan in his weekly radio broadcast, he missed a golden opportunity to reassure the people of Japan of America’s unwavering support, remind North Korea not to try anything stupid during this tragic time and set the tone of a nation in mourning.
So much for ending an era of “American Arrogance”…
