Government Stays Open, but What Did Boehner Accomplish? - Associated Content from Yahoo! - associatedcontent.com

I wanted to write this early Saturday morning after Congress agreed on the current CR to keep the almighty government going. At that point I was too upset to write anything other than a negative slamming piece. Now
I've taken some time not just to calm down, but to hear both sides on this issue. I may be calm, but my feelings haven't changed one bit. The way I see it the only good thing that came out of this was the fact that our troops who put their lives on the line to defend this country and the principles of freedom all over the world will still get paid. If you put your life on the line daily then this fact is a no brainer. The only other thing in my humble opinion that was accomplished here was the GOP showed weakness in a time they needed to stand strong. Specifically, but not limited to, House Speaker John Boehner. With each passing day I hear things on the news and see clips of people like John McCain saying that we the people have no business interfering in how the government is run, and our elected officials putting us down. Well I have news for you people you need to read the Constitution. It is we the people that govern ourselves not the elected politicians. The elected politicians are the ones that represent us and quite frankly they are doing a poor job of doing so.

Okay let's be fair and take a look at what this CR actually accomplishes. There are some positive points amongst the window dressing.

• Our military does continue to get paid. If the government shut down then our men and women would see nothing until a budget was passed. Not a good thing when they are putting their lives on the line for us.

• Somewhere hidden in this thing it does have cuts that actually do try to support job creation in American at a time we need it the most.
